After a mid-morning brunch on August 22, 2012, we were sitting in the dining/reception area at Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) waiting for a boat to take us to the Nxamaseri landing strip (on terra firma). A Black-collared Barbet, Lybius torquatus, was flitting around in a nearby tree. It has a bright red forehead, face, and neck with a broad black-colored collar. The breast and wing-feathers are edged in yellow. The heavy bill is black with a toothed ridge on the upper mandible (see photo). Temperatures were in the low 70's.
