Near sunset on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 22, 2012, we were driving back to Xakanaxa Camp on the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana with our group and guides (VENT and local) in a safari vehicle. We spotted a Brown Snake-Eagle (Circaetus cinereus) perched in a tree eating a snake. This is a large brown eagle that can be identified by its whitish, unfeathered legs, and large rounded head with yellow, forward-facing eyes. The dark body and underwing coverts contrast with the bird's silvery-white flight feathers. Temperatures were in the upper 80's.
