Brad photographed this Chirping Cisticola, Cisticola pipiens, the morning of August 21, 2012. We'd left Nxamaseri Lodge (Botswana) by boat and were birding the floodplains and islands in the area. Typically found amid papyrus and phragmites in water, the thirteen species of cisticolas are best identified by their habitat preference, behavior, and calls. Brown upperparts are streaked with black. The head is brown. Underparts are a buffy-color. Legs are pinkish. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this clear day with blue skies.
