Brad photographed this Coppery-tailed Coucal, Centropus cupreicaudus, during an afternoon birding expedition on August 21, 2012. Our boat left Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) and headed to the lagoon so we could look for additional species. The Coppery-tailed Coucal has a purple-black colored cap and nape, a heavy, dark bill, copper-colored upperparts, and white underparts. It is found in dense riparian vegetation, reed beds, and thickets away from water. Temperatures were close to 90 degrees with clear blue skies.
