A herd of approximately one-hundred African (Cape) Buffalo, Syncerus caffer, crossed in front of and around our vehicle during a morning birding and big game expedition on August 23, 2012, on the Moremi Game Reserve (Botswana). This individual has a Yellow-billed Oxpecker perched on its thick shield which overlies the forecrown. The Cape Buffalo is a member of the so-called "Big Five" group of animals for hunters which includes the elephant, rhino, lion, and leopard. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with clear blue skies.
