Late in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, we went birding on the Moremi Game Reserve with our group and guides (VENT and local) in a safari vehicle. We were heading for our "sundowner" when terrified Impala ran out of the bush coming at us in all directions. Four African Wild Dogs came loping after them through the tall grass toward us. However, the reason for the dog's activity wasn't the impala but proved to be a young female leopard (Panthera pardus) which they treed in a dead tree not thirty yards from our vehicle. We had a ring-side seat to the drama that was about to unfold. Temperatures were in the low 90's.
