Brad photographed a pair of Red Lechwes (Kobus leche) walking in a swampy area of Moremi Game Reserve (Botswana) the morning of August 23, 2012. We'd left Xakanaxa Camp which lies in the heart of the Okavango Delta just after sunrise via a safari vehicle to bird and look for big game. The Red Lechwe is a heavily built antelope with widely spaced eyes. Males have long horns that sweep back from the head and are heavily annulated (ring-like divisions). They inhabit seasonal floodplains and shallow swamps adjacent to open water and tend to avoid woodlands and water deeper than 50 cm. because of their physiology and soft hooves. Temperatures were in the low 80's with clear sunny skies.
