The seed pods on this Wild Dagga or Lions Ear, Leonitis leonurus, caught by eye and just had to be photographed. This plant is a robust shrub in its native South African environment. It was early in the morning on August 21, 2012, and we were birding around Nxamaseri Lodge (Botswana) looking for Pel's Fishing-Owl. We'd heard the gruff hooting during the night, but couldn't locate it near the lodge. Temperatures were in the low 60's on this clear day with blue skies.
