Brad photographed a Giant Kingfisher, Megaceryle maximus, during an afternoon birding expedition on August 21, 2012. Our boat was just minutes out of Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) when we encountered this female. With its black, dagger-like bill, and russet-brown-colored belly, the remaining body is streaked black and white on this, the world's largest kingfisher. Temperatures were close to 90 degrees with clear blue skies.
