Brad photographed a Goliath Heron, the world's largest heron, as it flew down the channel in front of us the morning of August 22, 2012. We'd left Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) before sunrise by boat for our last birding expedition there. We got to see the Goliath Heron, Ardea goliath, several times, but this was the best shot that we got of it. Upperparts are a slate-gray color, and underparts, along with the head and nape are a rich rufous color. The large, heavy bill, and legs are slate-gray. Temperatures were in the upper 60's.
