This Greater Blue-eared Starling, Funisciurus congicus, joined us in the open reception area where we were waiting to go out on an afternoon birding trip at Xakanaxa Camp (Maun, Botswana) the afternoon of August 22, 2012. Temperatures were in the low 90's on this sunny day. The Greater Blue-eared has a broad blackish-colored eye-stripe and ear-patch. The belly and flanks are a royal-blue. Two rows of variable black spots are found on the wing coverts.
