I took this photo of a Hartlaub's Babbler, Turdoides hartlaubii, that was perched on a stalk of papyrus near the entrance to Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) after lunch on August 21, 2012. The bird has a scaly appearance, a reddish-colored eye, and a white underbelly and rump (Arrow-marked Babbler has a brownish rump and a body patterned with 'arrow marks'). The weather was warm with temperatures in the upper 80's and clear blue skies. Babblers are thrush-like terrestrial birds noted for their distinctive babbling calls.
