Brad took a frontal view photograph of a Little Bee-eater, Merops pusillus, as it perched on a stalk of papyrus the morning of August 21, 2012. We'd left Nxamaseri Lodge (Botswana) by boat and were birding the floodplains and islands in the area. The coloration of this species with its yellow throat, black and coppery-colored collar, black eye-line, red iris, small turquoise supercilium, orange-buff colored underparts, and bright green upperparts was spectacular! The tail is short and lacks streamers. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this clear day with blue skies.
