Brad photographed this Little Bittern the morning of August 22, 2012. We'd left Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) before sunrise by boat for our last birding expedition there. We were heading back to camp when we encountered the Little Bittern, Ixobrychus minutus, perched in the same area it was an hour earlier. Males have a black cap and wings that are boldly edged in black. Underparts are mainly rufous with some white interspersed on the chest and belly. Legs are yellow. Temperatures were in the low 70's.
