Brad took this photograph of a Pied Kingfisher from the dining/reception area at Nxamaseri Lodge (Botswana) during the morning of August 20, 2012, while I was out birding nearby floodplains in a Mokoro. This female Pied Kingfisher, Ceryle rudis, was perched in a tree near the pier and was focused on hunting its next meal. Females have twin black breast patches while males have a black-colored double breast-band. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this clear morning with blue skies.
