We photographed a Plain-backed Pipit, Anthus leucophrys, skulking about in the underbrush during an afternoon birding expedition on August 21, 2012. Our boat left Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) and headed to the lagoon and solid ground where we boarded a safari vehicle so we could look for additional species. The grayish-brown back and underparts are unmarked. The lower mandible is yellow. The individual shown has a distinct pale supercilium. Temperatures were close to 90 degrees with clear blue skies.
