After a light, early morning breakfast on August 24, 2012, at Xakanaxa Camp, we took a safari vehicle for one last birding/big game expedition in Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana. A Red-billed Francolin (Spurfowl), Pternistis adspersus, was perched atop a large boulder. Yellow skin surrounding the eyes, a red bill, and finely barred underparts are characteristic of the species. The bird's 'spurs' are clearly visible in the photograph. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this clear day.
