A female Saddle-billed Stork (Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis) is shown here preening on the morning of August 23, 2012. Females lack a small yellow wattle located on each side of the base of the mandible. The iris is yellow. We were in a safari vehicle heading out from Xakanaxa Camp (Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana) for a morning of birding. Temperatures were in the upper 60's with clear skies.
