Brad photographed a Senegal Coucal, Centropus senegalensis, as it perched in some nearby vegetation during an afternoon birding expedition on August 21, 2012. Our boat left Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) and headed to the lagoon and solid ground where we boarded a safari vehicle so we could look for additional species. The Senegal Coucal is similar to the Coppery-tailed Coucal. However, it does not have barred upper tail coverts, and the tail has a green (not coppery) iridescence. It is also smaller and has a smaller bill. Temperatures were close to 90 degrees with clear blue skies.
