During the late afternoon of August 21, 2012, we left Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) by boat and headed to the lagoon and solid ground where we boarded a safari vehicle to look for additional species. The Senegal Coucal, Centropus senegalensis, is similar to the Coppery-tailed Coucal. However, it does not have barred upper tail coverts, and the tail has a green (not coppery) iridescence. It is also smaller and has a smaller bill. Temperatures were close to 90 degrees with clear blue skies.
