During the late afternoon of August 21, 2012, we left Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) by boat and headed to the lagoon and solid ground where we boarded a safari vehicle to look for additional species. The Slaty Egret, Egretta vinaceigula, shown in this photo is a dark gray bird with a bluish tinge. It has yellow lower legs and feet, facial skin, and eyes. The foreneck is a buff color. Temperatures were in the upper 80's with clear blue skies.
