After brunch on August 23, 2012, we birded around Xakanaxa Camp (Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana). Brad photographed a Southern Black-Tit, Parus niger, perched on a branch near the camp's common/breakfast area. This species prefers woodland dominated by broadleafed trees (miombo, Combretum species and Burkea africana). The male is a blue-black color, while the female is grayish. They feed mainly on insects but have been known to take nectar. Temperatures were in the low 90's with clear blue skies.
