We were docking at Nxamaseri Island Lodge (Maun, Botswana) the morning of August 22, 2012, when we photographed a Squacco Heron, Ardeola ralloides, standing amid the papyrus. I'm glad we stopped to take a photo because it shows the delicate black streaking on the sides of its long neck. The yellow iris and lores and raised white wings all add to the beauty of this colorful bird. Temperatures were in the low 70's.
