Our one and only look at a Striped Kingfisher (Halcyon chelicuti) occurred while birding in the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana the morning of August 23, 2012. We'd left Xakanaxa Camp just after sunrise via a safari vehicle to bird and look for big game. The black and white streaked crown, bicolored bill, black eye-stripe extending to the nape, and white collar are distinctive. The vent is bright blue, and some bright blue coloration can be seen edging the wings. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with clear sunny skies.
