Late in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, we went birding on the Moremi Game Reserve with our group and guides (VENT and local) in a safari vehicle. Brad photographed a Tawny Eagle, Aquila rapax, as it stood on the ground. The gape of this species extends only to the middle of the eye. The bird is a tawny color with dark brown mottling on the wings and has fully feathered legs. Temperatures were in the low 90's on this sunny day.
