Brad and I did some birding around our casita at Nxamaseri Lodge (Botswana) after lunch on August 20, 2012. We photographed a White-bellied Sunbird, Cinnyris talatala, as it fed in a nearby flowering tree. The male has an iridescent blue-green colored head, mantle, throat, and breast. Underparts are white. Males typically sing for long periods of time from a prominent perch. Sunbirds are small, insectivorous and nectar-drinking birds that have decurved bills adapted for probing flowers. Temperatures were near 90 on this clear day with blue skies.
