We saw this African Jacana, Actophilornis africanus, at the Homob Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 16, 2012. (We were driving towards Halali Camp, our next over-night stop.) This distinctive waterbird has long legs and exceptionally long toes. Its bill and frontal shield are blue. The body is chestnut in color. A black line runs on either side of the frontal shield from the bill through the eyes and over the head and nape. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this sunny afternoon.
