We spent the early part of the morning on August 17, 2012, birding around Halali Camp and waterhole. The African Scops Owl, Otus senegalensis, was one of three owl species (African Scops, Southern White-faced Scops and Barn) that we saw during our morning walk around the camp. Its plumage is aptly described as resembling tree bark which makes it difficult to find. Its ear-tufts are visible in this photo. Temperatures were in low 70's on this beautiful morning with clear blue skies.
