We saw this female Bateleur, Terathopius ecaudatus, at the Rietfontein Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 16, 2012. (We were driving towards Halali Camp, our next over-night stop.) The Bateleur is a bulky-looking black eagle with bare red facial skin and legs. Its back is a chestnut-brown color. In flight, it can be identified by its short tail and rocking motion. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this sunny afternoon.
