Brad photographed these Snake-Eagles while we were driving through Bagani Mahangu Game Reserve in Namibia the morning of August 19, 2012. The upper bird is a Bateleur, Terathopius ecaudatus. It has red facial skin and legs and a chestnut-brown colored back. It can be ID in flight by its short tail and rocking flight motion. The lower bird is a Black-chested Snake-Eagle, Circaetus pectoralis. Legs are bare (unfeathered), white underparts are unspotted, and, when seen in flight, underwings are white with narrow black bars. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this clear day.
