We saw this Black-shouldered (Black-Winged) Kite, Elanus caeruleus, while driving to Rietfontein Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 16, 2012. (We were driving towards Halali Camp, our next over-night stop.) Underparts are white. Upperparts are gray with black carpal patches. The iris is a ruby-red color. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this sunny afternoon.
