We drove through Bagani Mahangu Game Reserve in Namibia the afternoon of August 19, 2012, to enter into Botswana at the Muhembo Border Post. These Brown Firefinches, Lagonosticta nitidula, were foraging in a mat of tangled grass. The face, throat, and upper breast area are reddish. Upperparts are brownish. White spotting is visible on the sides of the breast. This species lacks a red rump. Temperatures were in the low 90's on this clear day.
