After breakfast on August 13, 2012, our group boarded a safari vehicle and drove along the dry Huab River bed until lunchtime. This view shows the head and dorsal area of a Cape Glossy-Starling, Lamprotornis nitens. Good lighting is everything when photographing birds. During our African safari, we were told to remain in our vehicle unless otherwise instructed so the lighting on this bird causes it to appear blue to blackish. In fact, the bird is predominantly blue-green in color and lacks a dark ear patch. Temperatures were in the high 80's on this clear, breezy morning.
