We photographed this Cape Glossy-Starling, Lamprotornis nitens, while we were on a morning birding trip on August 14, 2012, walking along a grassy area with boulder strewn hills near the dry Huab River. The color of this species, mostly blue-green below with peacock-blue and greens above, appears to be dark blue and black due to the lighting conditions. The iris appears yellowish. This species lacks a dark ear patch. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this clear morning with blue skies.
