We were birding and looking for big game at the Goas Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 17, 2012. Brad photographed this Cape Glossy-Starling, Lamprotornis nitens, perched on a log. This species has blue-green underparts (depending on the light, the bird can appear blackish), a yellowish-orange iris, and lacks a black ear patch. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this beautiful afternoon with clear blue skies.
