We were birding and looking for big game at the Goas Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 17, 2012. Brad photographed this Cape Glossy-Starling, Lamprotornis nitens, foraging in the grass. This closeup view shows the bird's blue-green underparts (depending on the light, the bird can appear blackish), yellowish-orange iris, lack of a black ear patch, dark bill, and nasal area. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this beautiful day with clear blue skies.
