After breakfast on August 13, 2012, our group boarded a safari vehicle and drove along the dry Huab River bed until lunchtime. This view shows the head and dorsal area of a Cape Turtle-Dove, Streptopelia capicola. The head is a sooty-gray color with a narrow black nuchal collar. The eye is black, and no eye-ring is present. The mantle and wing coverts are grayish. White outer tail feathers are visible when the bird is in flight. Temperatures were in the high 80's on this clear, breezy morning.
