We were up early the morning of August 13, 2012, to do some birding while the temperatures were still low. Brad photographed a Familiar Chat, Cercomela familiaris, perched on branch extending out from a dirt bank. The tail of this species is a dark rufous color with dark central and subterminal feathers that form a 'T' shape. Overall the bird is brownish with little contrast between upperparts and underparts. Temperatures on this partly cloudy morning were in the upper 60's.
