We were birding at the Nuamses Waterhole the morning of August 17, 2012, when we encountered a herd of forty-three African Elephants (Loxodonta africana). The habitat in this area south of Etosha Lookout includes Sweet Grassveld on lime and Mopane Treeveld. It was exciting being this close to a large herd of gigantic mammals. Thank goodness they weren't interested in us. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this beautiful morning with clear blue skies.
