Brad photographed this pair of Black-backed Jackals, Canis mesomelas, while we were on a drive to the waterhole at Okondeka in Etosha National Park (Namibia) during the morning of August 16, 2012. Also known as the Silver-backed jackal, this animal's habitat includes open woodlands, savanna, and bush. They typically live in pairs and team up when hunting for impala or antelope (just what these two were up to). Upperparts have black fur, and underparts and chest are white. The rest of the body is covered with fur that varies from a reddish-brown to a ginger color. Temperatures were in the mid-70's with partly cloudy skies.
