After lunch followed by a siesta on August 14, 2012, Brad and I walked to the Huab reception/dining area where we boarded our safari vehicle for late afternoon birding. A group of Cape Rock Hyrax (Dassie), Procavia capensis, is shown in this photo. A medium sized terrestrial mammal, it is closely related to the elephant. I guess we were not perceived as a threat, because the entire family came out to observe US! Temperatures were in the low 80's on this clear day.
