After a continental breakfast and a hike around the property on August 15, 2012. I returned to the area where we'd seen Common Slit-faced Bats, Nycterus thebiaca, the previous morning to take additional photos. The bats were still on their night roost hanging from the rafters just outside the ladies room in the main reception/dining area. I think that this photo captures the true nature of this species which is found throughout most of Africa. Upperparts are a light brown color, and underparts are a creamy white. Large, conspicuous ears are evident on this medium-sized bat which gets its name from the distinctive slit which runs down the center of its face from its eyes to its snout. Temperatures were in the low 50's on this cold and windy overcast morning (our last at Huab).
