After birding and looking for big game at the Goas Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 17, 2012, we started driving toward Namutoni Camp (our base for the next two nights). Brad took this photograph of a Kongoni (Red Hartebeest), Alcelaphus buselaphus, as it ran through the grass and thornveld. This large, reddish-fawn colored antelope has a sloping back and a long, narrow face with heavily ringed horns. This was the only time we saw this species. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this beautiful day with clear blue skies.
