Brad photographed this male Sable Antelope, Hippotragus niger, while we were driving through Bagani Mahangu Game Reserve in Namibia the afternoon of August 19, 2012. The Sable Antelope mainly inhabits the Miombo Woodland Zone (wooded savannah) of southern Africa and east Africa south of Kenya. A vertical mane runs from between the ears to just beyond the shoulders. The males "long" ringed horns arch gracefully backwards and stand out against the animal's rich dark glossy brownish-black to black coloration. This male appeared to be in charge and stood his ground when faced with a charging Common Warthog. Temperatures were in the 90's on this clear day.
