One of the big hits of our August 14, 2012, morning birding outing was seeing a five plus meter long Southern African Python, Python natalensis, slithering along the ground abutting the dry Huab River bed. Brad got a nice shot of its forked tongue. This species has no problem with opening its mouth to 180 degrees and downing prey up to 100% of its own body weight. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this clear, sunny day.
