We were birding and looking for big game at the Goas Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 17, 2012. Brad took this photograph of a Spotted Hyeana, Crocuta crocuta, walking away from the waterhole. This was the only time we saw this species with its dark face, and black spotted tan coat. Females are larger than the male, have more muscle mass, and are more aggressive due to a high level of testosterone (3X that of the male). Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this beautiful day with clear blue skies.
