We flew from Mokuti Airstrip in Ethosha National Park (Namibia) to Rundu (Namibia) the morning of August 19, 2012. A second flight took us from Rundu to Bagani in the Caprivi Strip area of Namibia. Brad took a photo of the Okavango River on the second flight. The Okavango River is Southern Africa's fourth longest river system. In Botswana it drains into the Moremi Game Reserve on the eastern side of the Delta. The Okavango does not have an outlet to the sea. Instead, it empties into a swamp in the Kalahari Desert known as the Okavango Delta or Okavango Alluvial Fan. Vegetation in flooded areas consists of sedges, papyrus, grasses, reed rafts, and aquatic plants. Dry thorn savanna and grassland with scattered acacia trees and patches of mixed woodland are also present.
