After breakfast on the morning of August 13, 2012, Brad and I were in the reception/dining area at Huab Lodge waiting for the group to assemble for a birding hike around some of the lodge's cabins. Brad photographed a Pale-winged Starling, Onychognathus nabouroup, as it perched on one of the dining tables (always looking for a hand-out). This all-black bird has an orange-colored iris and whitish wing panels (the outer half of the wing appears pale in flight). When perched, this panel appears red (see photo). Temperatures were up into the low 80's on this clear, breezy morning.
