August 15, 2012, began with an early morning birding hike around Huab before packing and leaving for our drive to Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha National Park (Namibia). We photographed a Pale-winged Starling, Onychognathus nabouroup, as it perched on a snag. This all-black bird has an orange-colored iris and whitish wing panels (the outer half of the wing appears pale in flight). This panel shows white with a graduated reddish color along the edge in this photo. Temperatures were in the low 50's on this misty, windy, overcast morning.
