Brad took this photograph of a Pearl-spotted Owlet, Glaucidium perlatum, during a morning birding trip on August 14, 2012. We were walking along the banks of the dry Huab River bed when we found this small earless owl perched in a nearby tree. Upperparts are brown with small white spots, and underparts are white streaked with brown. Pearl-like spots are found on the bird's underparts and long-tail. Temperatures were in the upper 50's on this clear morning. Buzzed by an African Hoopoe, this Owlet appeared to be unfazed.
